Bharat's knowledge tradition was developed through systematic observation, experimentation, logical inquiry and accumulated experience. Its contributions to mathematics, astronomy, medicine, metallurgy, architecture, agriculture, governance and environmental sustainability remain important areas for scientific and interdisciplinary research.
In alignment with the National Education Policy 2020, Gujarat Technological University established Dharohar – Bharatiya Gyan Parampara Kendra, which subsequently evolved into the GTU School of Indian Knowledge System (GTU-SIKS). Dharohar–BKS promotes the documentation, critical examination, scientific validation and contemporary application of Bharatiya knowledge through academic programmes, research, conferences, workshops, faculty development programmes and publications.
The Bharat-Tirth Lecture Series has connected students, faculty members and the GTU Parivar with eminent scholars, scientists and traditional knowledge practitioners through more than 150 lectures and academic sessions. Selected lectures will be reviewed, edited and published as books, thematic volumes and digital academic resources.
GTU aims to integrate subject-specific Bharatiya Knowledge System components across its curricula, supported by clearly defined learning outcomes, credible references and evidence-based evaluation. Particular emphasis will be placed on exploring the relevance of Bharatiya knowledge to artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, biotechnology, pharmacy, engineering, architecture, management, healthcare, agriculture and sustainability.
A research-based ecosystem will encourage final-year students of GTU Schools and the GTU Institute of Technology and Research to undertake BKS-oriented projects, dissertations, field studies and innovation assignments. Faculty members and research scholars will be supported in developing databases, documenting traditional practices and publishing scientifically reviewed books, monographs and research papers.
Dharohar–BKS will combine scientific temper with ethics, sustainability, cultural confidence and social responsibility. I envision it emerging as a nationally recognized centre that connects Bharatiya wisdom with modern science and transforms validated knowledge into education, innovation, technology and solutions for society.
